Should i walk away and stop all contact or carry on?

i split with my ex 3 and half years ago. we wer togther for 3 yrs, however for the last 3 and half years we have carried on seein eachother like we never split up although we are not a couple. its mor than jus as he calls me 5 times a day and we spend almost every weekend together watchin films goin out ect but he says he dnt love me and i jus cant understand what the hell is goin on as he acts like my bf yet in reality we r jus friends, can he really feel nothin for me?would it be better to have no contact with him as i still love him and this is killin me now as i cant imagine if he got a gf it wld kill me.anyone been in my situation???
