South Africans: I just saw 'Invictus'; accurate or 'Americanized' portrayal?

Seeing as how I'm from Canada, I really don't know. I studied South African history a little in school as an extra project. Apartheid was violent and unnecessary and most would agree that it is definitely better that its practices are outlawed, but I also hear murmurings that the economy and such went in the trash after Mandela took over. Whether Mandela or a successor is to blame, again, I don't know. But those who live on the continent of Africa, you must agree that Zimbabwe (as Rhodesia) was better under the Queen's law- economically that is.
