Is it possible to change the text of an email after it has been received into a Yahoo account?

This relates to court proceedings where the Defendant, who has a Yahoo account, has produced a different version of the email that was actually sent. The modified email is now stored in the Defendant's Yahoo account but it is different from the version that was sent. Does anybody know how this has been done?
